Writing Assistance for International Scholars
Although my site and the writing lessons here are for everyone, I have a special place in my heart for international scholars. Throughout my undergraduate and graduate years, I was often involved with diverse groups and tutoring international scholars in English. When I finished grad school, I sold my belongings and went abroad. Weeks turned into months, and months into years.
Everywhere I went, I lived with local families, made friends, experienced the local culture, and worked on the language. I have a great deal of respect for international students and professors and am continually amazed by how well they write in a language so different from their own. I am also continuously humbled by the openness, friendliness, and hardworking nature exhibited by so many people around the world. I welcome diverse opinions and believe that this diversity is important in the advancement of academic research.
For the better part of a decade, I have edited for professors and students from Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Burundi, Ghana, Tanzania, Morocco, Algeria, India, Egypt, Turkey, Russia, the Ukraine, and several other countries. Most of these scholars work as professors in the United States or study here, whereas others work at universities abroad. While in grad school, I held weekly tutoring sessions with grad students from Korea, Japan, and many other countries. While abroad, I taught or tutored English in Guatemala, Mexico, El Salvador, Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador.
I hadn’t necessarily planned on this being my specialty, but after all of my years of experience, I now feel comfortable saying that this is my expertise–improving the language and writing abilities of professors, students, scholars, and professionals who speak and write English as a foreign language. If you fall into one of these categories, you are in the right place. I am here to help you excel more than I am sure you already are doing. Together we can take your writing to the next level.
So, welcome, I’m happy to have you here. Please take a look around, and if you haven’t already signed up for the free writing tips, you can access them here.
